How to Maintain Visibility in Cold Storage: Forklift Cameras That Perform in Low Temps

If you operate a warehouse with cold storage — think frozen foods, pharmaceuticals, or perishable goods — you know the frustration: driving in and out of freezers, only to have your forklift camera lens fog up, leaving you blind at critical moments.

At HVS, we’ve faced the same challenge right here in West Michigan, where winters are brutally cold. That’s why we designed a heated lens forklift camera that keeps your vision clear, no matter the temperature.

Why Cold Storage Can Be a Hazard for Your Forklift Vision

Many warehouse operators feel cameras aren’t practical for cold storage. Lens fogging, frost buildup, and jostling during daily operations can all make standard cameras unreliable. This isn’t just inconvenient, it’s a safety risk. A blocked view can slow operations, increase accidents, and reduce efficiency.

That’s where HVS comes in.

The Solution: Heated, Anti-Fogging Forklift Cameras

Our cameras are built to handle extreme cold, dirt, dust, moisture, and vibration, and some can feature:

  • Heated lens technology: Prevents frost from forming when moving between cold and warm areas.
  • Anti-fogging coating: Keeps vision crystal clear, even in humid conditions.
  • Rugged construction: Built to endure the toughest warehouse environments.
  • 1080p image quality: Paired with a 10” monitor for easy use in motion.

The Development Story

Creating the heated lens wasn’t easy. Our engineers began with a broken camera and some heater strips. Early tests involved attaching the heater directly to the lens, which worked, but blocked the camera view. The breakthrough came when the heater was placed between two thin sheets of metal, allowing the lens to stay clear without obstruction.

After fine-tuning the heater size, wattage, and thermostat placement, the system could detect when the camera moved into a freezer and automatically turn the heater on, shutting it off when it returned to warmer areas.

The final test? Soaking the camera at -20°F for over an hour. The camera body frosted, but the lens remained clear. Vision stayed unobstructed, proving the system works under extreme conditions.

Why You Should Care

Imagine this: your forklift driver moves from a freezer to a warm area. With standard cameras, they must wait for the lens to clear, slowing operations and risking accidents. With HVS heated lens cameras, downtime disappears. Drivers see clearly, work efficiently, and stay safe.

The transformation is clear:

Before After
Lens fogs up moving in/out of cold storage Lens stays clear with heated technology
Drivers wait or struggle to see Drivers operate efficiently and safely
Increased risk of accidents Enhanced safety and confidence
Lost productivity Reduced downtime and improved workflow

Who Benefits

If you’re a warehouse manager, forklift operator, or safety officer, this camera is designed for you

  • You value safety and efficiency.
  • You want technology that adapts to harsh conditions, not one that slows you down.
  • You want confidence that your equipment works when it matters most.

By choosing HVS, you’re investing in peace of mind, operational efficiency, and worker safety.

Don’t Risk It

Ignoring lens fog in cold storage isn’t just inconvenient, it’s risky. Poor visibility can cause:

  • Forklift accidents
  • Product damage
  • Operational delays
  • Increased costs

Final Thoughts

Our heated lens forklift cameras are more than an innovation, they’re a solution. They make your warehouse safer, your drivers more efficient, and your operations more reliable. With anti-fogging technology, rugged design, and 1080p quality, HVS cameras keep your vision clear, whatever the temperature.

Experience the difference: See clearly, work safely, and leave frost behind.
